Landscapes

A landscape of a scene that evokes memories always adds a personal touch to any home. I am inspired to paint landscapes in oils and pastels of my favourite places, which include scenes of the British countryside, Welsh seascapes, the mountains and lakes of the Savoy area of France and the Cote d’Azur around Antibes. I enjoy creating plein-air studies of my trips to Italy, Spain and other inspiring places. However, I am always happy to produce a painting of a favourite scene to order from high quality photos.

Do get in touch for a price list of available works or if you would like to discuss commissioning a landscape.

Hautecombe Abbey, Savoie

Pastel painting of this wild and mystical Cistercian abbey on the Lac du Bourget in France.

La Savoyarde

The mountain in the distance is a famous landmark of the Savoie region of France. It is known as the Savoyarde as it resembles the traditional local headdress worn by Savoy women.

La Dent du Chat

View of a landmark in the Savoy area of France using panpastel and soft pastels.

Remparts, Antibes

The remparts of Antibes have been painted by many great painters so I couldn’t resist trying my own version,

Rhosneigr sunset

A sunset is quite a tricky thing to paint as it can quickly become too ‘sugary’ but this area is known for its dramatic sunsets, so I really felt inspired to try it.

Pastel on pastelmat board, 30 x 40 cm, 2019. Private Collection

Terrace Antibes

Painted in watercolour and then gessoed and painted with pastels, including Panpastels.

Hahnemuhle pastel paper 130gm, 40 x 56 cm, 2019

The River Varon, Route des Catons, France

Painted from a photo reference during lockdown. This was my usual jogging destination so had to just paint it instead.

Oil on aluminium panel, 80 x 60cm, 2020

Le Port des Olivettes

Painted en plein air from the Cap d’Antibes. This charming little bay full of local fishing boats that dazzle in the sunlight is a painter’s paradise

Watercolour and pastel on Hahnemuhle pastel paper, 40 x 40cm, 2019

Chemin du Tour du Cap d’Antibes

View from the Cap d’Antibes towards the isles de Lerins. Oil sketch showing some of the Fauve influence creeping in. Must be the south of France that does that to you!

Oil on oil aluminium panel, 80 x 80 cm, 2019

Towards the Headland, Rhosneigr

I used a selection of Michael Harding blues and greys that particularly lend themselves to the subject. Currently on show at Oriel Ger y Fenai.
